Just A wish

"A huge stone from the Western Wall in Jerusalem has been disconnected this morning (Monday) and smashed on Ezrat Israel plaza". Ynet, 23.7.2018

The stone in the Middle East has many symbolic meanings. It takes part in a variety of rituals and is present in many situations in our lives - from laying a small stone on a grave while visiting the cemetery, to landmarks and protest measures.  I chose to react to a news report covering the fall of a single stone from the Western Wall in Jerusalem. The detachment from the wall releases it from the place and raises questions about its value and purpose. In my work, I offer a solution to this dilemma -  dividing the stone and turning it into lapel pins. The pins are used as a souvenir, which allows you, like in the Jewish tradition, to tuck a note in it and carry it as a daily, weekly or permanent wish. The work examines the connection between a ritual and a place, and between sanctity and consumption.
