Local industry and culture shape one another.

These days, the world's production centers are all located in the same part of the world, clouding the diversity and singularity of local cultures. For my final project, I have joined forces with the Israeli based Caesarstone, an international company that specializes in the manufacturing of quartz countertops. The company's main factory is located next to the historic  Caesarea Port which has served as an important trade center for thousands of years. Led by the desire to tie together local culture and industry, I designed “storage jars” using quartz countertops.

The countertop production process begins with quartz and resin mixed together. The mélange is then pressed, creating a dense surface, ready to be heated and transformed into a solid countertop.

The quartz storage jars were made by molding the unheated material, while it is still flexible, using patchwork to create a three dimensional object.

Whereas the ancient storage jars were used to transport goods by sea, the new ones I propose become an artifact in their own right.
